Vanir Ruins

The structures are too large for humans. Some of the mechanisms still work.

Ruins from the ancient world exist across Roo and beyond, from small remnants to enormous complexes. Roo is unusual because so many of its ruins remain comparatively well preserved.

They are built on a scale that does not fit humanity. A single stair step can rise nearly to a human waist. People therefore commonly believe the builders were the Vanir or other giant divine beings.

The ruins contain ancient technology, although present humanity does not possess the conceptual language to describe it as machinery. Priests interpret the mechanisms spiritually, treasure hunters loot them, scholars study them, cults form around them and jarls sometimes use ancient structures as forts or castles.

Much of the old technology still functions, although some mechanisms are damaged.

Known mechanisms

The Wind Wheel is an ancient mechanism whose wheel has slipped out of position and can function again if reset. The Tidal Gate is a vast sea lock or gate built into a wall-like structure between two seas.

Deep beneath Highward is another Vanir machine that Varren has never fully activated.
