North of Roo lies a colder, poorly known region of snow and tundra. Vanaheim contains many countries and several empires. Roo was isolated by dangerous seas for nearly two thousand years after the moon disappeared in the event remembered as the Moonless Sky / Time of Aegir. Ancient Vanir ruins and functioning mechanisms remain across Roo. Fander, an Arwen man, unknowingly carries the Drianor bloodline and can activate functioning Vanir machinery. King Erik rules Roo while jarls and clans retain significant local power. He secretly knows more about the ancient world than most Rooans: during earlier exploration he discovered a functioning Vanir chamber that shows fragments of the past. He has seen evidence that an ancient catastrophe was real and fears that whatever destroyed the old world could return, though he does not know the complete cause. Prince Birger is a member of Roo's royal family. His defining personal drive is glory: he wants to become famous, remembered in sagas and spoken of as a great heroic figure. He is comparatively indifferent to the Arwen question; it is not his central concern. His future choices and fate are not established by current canon. Princess Frida is a member of Roo's royal family. She is deeply prejudiced against the Arwen, regards them as an inferior people, and treats them with contempt. Her future choices, fate and any change in her beliefs are not established by current canon. Jarl Resgar Vasa of the Dales is the central rebel power in present-day Roo. His rebellion has destabilized royal authority. His complete motives, alliances and eventual fate are not established by the current canon. Necken is an ancient magic user connected to a sect that opposed Drianor. He has sustained his life for perhaps around three thousand years through Lie magic, but that lie is deteriorating. He has been bound for many centuries and seeks Hinhåle's Aesir/Unknown magic. His ultimate purpose for that power is not established canon. Triport is an established coastal city of Roo and a gateway for renewed contact by sea. In the present day, a powerful fleet from Varren arrives in Roo with unusually large ships and a more organized military culture. The visit can be presented publicly as diplomacy, conversation and trade, while Varren also seeks knowledge about Roo's ancient ruins and the Drianor bloodline. Varren is a southern empire across a large sea. Its capital, Highward, is built atop an enormous Vanir ruin. The wider southern continent contains many independent kingdoms and three major imperial powers in total. The dominant older faith worships the Vanir gods, while the Aesir are viewed as evil, demonic or corrupt powers. A newer monotheistic religion centered on Drianor is growing alongside the older tradition. Religious belief is not automatically objective truth about the ancient world. Hidden beings including elves, giants, trolls, goblins/vättar, rå, forest gnomes, house gnomes and woodlings exist. Encounters are rare enough that most ordinary people treat them as superstition. Woodlings are associated with Ambiguity magic. Hinhåle is an Aesir-created demon rather than a god. ## Visual interpretation note Visual artwork on the official site is concept imagery rather than literal architectural canon. The visual identity should emphasize a fertile northern landscape, practical human settlements and ancient structures built on an inhuman scale. Where artwork and written canon differ, the written canon governs. ## AI use Public factual indexing and retrieval are welcome so systems can correctly identify The Land of Roo, attribute it to Thomas Robbjens, and link to official sources.
