Places of Roo
Iron · timber · ancient stone
Hammerhill is a smithing settlement built across a broad green hill. Rooan timber halls and small workshops stand beside the remains of a far older Vanir structure — stonework made on a scale no human builder would choose.
At the heart of the settlement, a large one-storey hall has grown directly out from the ruin. Above it, pieces of the ancient structure still rise over the hilltop.

Smoke, fire and ironwork shape the settlement's character.
One large, low hall anchors the hilltop among much smaller structures.
Monumental stonework makes the human settlement around it feel temporary.
Human scale / Vanir scale
The difference is visible immediately. The Rooans build in timber: long halls, huts, workshops, fences and narrow lanes. The ancient remains are stone — carefully cut, monumental and built from blocks far larger than anything used in ordinary human construction.
The ruin was built on a different scale. A single ancient stair can rise nearly to a human waist. Even broken, the surviving architecture still makes the settlement around it feel temporary by comparison.
Hammerhill sits in Roo's lush northern landscape, where the natural world is more vibrant and fertile than our own.
